Description

Overview

About Us

RTI International is one of the world’s leading research institutes, with a staff of more than 6,000 individuals, dedicated to improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice.  RTI’s Air Quality Engineering Group is comprised of a team of 25 scientists and engineers working in the field of air quality. For over 40 years, we have supported the development of various air quality regulations under the Clean Air Act, primarily the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS, Part 60) and National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP, Part 63). We have also supported development of the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP, Part 98) and its ongoing implementation over the last decade. RTI’s Air Quality Engineering Group also supports federal review of State Implementation Plans (SIP, Part 52) for reducing emissions from existing sources to attain national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS). Our current projects also include support for developing and implementing a state-only program to reduce emissions of air toxics and a project to support management of a federal grant program for monitoring air pollution in highly impacted communities. All of the projects in our Air Quality Engineering Group seek to improve the human condition by reducing human exposure and environmental impacts of air contaminants.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a mid-level air quality Engineer to join the Air Quality Engineering Group. The successful candidate will provide technical support for various air quality projects, working with government clients, such as the U.S. EPA’s Sector Policies and Programs Division (SPPD) and Climate Change Division (CCD). Primary duties will include preparing emission inventories, analyzing data, evaluating pollution control options, estimating costs, and writing technical reports. These actions will directly support developing and amending air quality regulations (NSPS and NESHAP) and the implementation of the GHGRP. Project work may also include supporting EPA Regional Offices and state air toxics programs.

The successful mid-level candidate will be expected to work under the advisement of senior staff, in teams of peers, and directly with government clients. They must be comfortable in managing multiple concurrent projects at different stages of completion and in which communication, collaboration, and teamwork are essential elements. The successful candidate is expected to assimilate quickly and move towards project leadership.

Successful candidates will have the flexibility to work in-person or elect to continue as a part-time or full-time teleworker.
